Building Literacy and Social Emotional Learning through Read Alouds (FET)
Turn your classroom read alouds into dynamic experiences that promote both literacy skills and social-emotional growth. In this course, you'll explore research-based strategies to plan engaging and interactive read alouds that expand students’ vocabulary, comprehension, and empathy. You'll explore techniques for before, during, and after reading, including "think alouds" and "text talk" questions. Discover how to intentionally select diverse texts that act as both "windows" into new perspectives and "mirrors" reflecting students' own experiences. You'll gain the confidence and skills to create a classroom environment where read alouds become transformative experiences empowering students to become confident, compassionate, and lifelong learners.
