GRADE LEVEL
“The ability to both value life and to engage in life” is the definition of mental health. Educators will begin the course by exploring what mental health means in your own life, as you dig into resources designed for educators like you! Whether you are a teacher, counselor, or other professional working in the education space, you will then shift your focus and expand your knowledge of strategies to support students who manage mental illness as you increase your understanding of the signs and symptoms. Explore how students, schools and society are impacted by stigma, and how homelessness, racism, social media and more can compound challenges. Study the most common mental disorders, see how distress caused by mental illness affects students, and investigate ideas for advocacy. Discover the power of social-emotional learning (SEL) in fostering resilience and learn practical strategies for integrating SEL into the classroom. At the end of the course, you will pull together what you have learned through the creation of a comprehensive presentation, lessons, or resource list. Equip yourself with the skills to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment, so together, we can make a positive impact on the mental health of our students!
