Beyond the Book: Creating a Comprehensive Unit for Braiding Sweetgrass | Teaching Channel

Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults, and other young adult book editions, provide opportunities to teach new ideas in developmentally appropriate ways. We know teachers rarely have time to innovate their lessons, let alone to create an entire unit of study…until now! This Beyond the Book Series course will empower you to design an instructional unit for Braiding Sweetgrass. Through identifying key themes, quotes, and exploring multimedia resources, your students will build background and content-area knowledge. And, using best practices in Backwards Design and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), you will build a variety of activities culminating in a dynamic, engaging unit.  By the end of the course, you will have a complete unit of study, and will be energized, confident, and ready to teach Braiding Sweetgrass!
