Cultural Competency from the Classroom to the Community
Special Populations
COURSE #
GRADUATE CREDITS
FORMAT
GRADE LEVEL
In this course, you’ll discover how cultural competence transforms the way we teach, learn, and live, creating classrooms and communities where students feel seen, valued, and empowered. Explore how demographic shifts, unconscious bias, and cultural faux pas shape our responses and relationships with others, and even take a biased self-assessment to uncover your cultural blind spots. Learn how culturally responsive teaching (CRT) “lifts all boats” through the promotion of  equity, empathy, and inclusivity. Along the way, you’ll collaborate with colleagues, adapt lessons through a culturally responsive lens, and create a community guidebook to deepen connections beyond the classroom. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to model cultural competence, strengthen student engagement, and positively impact classroom climate, school culture, and community relationships.
