Professional Development is intended to fulfill requirements for license renewal and recertification when the student has obtained proper prior approval. Please verify with your state licensing board that Teaching Channel professional development will meet your needs.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the Science of Reading, a research-backed approach to reading instruction. You'll explore key components like the Big Five, Scarborough's Rope, and the distinction between word recognition and language comprehension. You'll gain a deeper understanding of how children learn to read and develop the skills to implement effective, evidence-based literacy practices.

Educators will have 12 months, from the date of registration, to complete the course. Upon completion, you will receive a Teaching Channel Letter of Completion for 3 clock hours (university graduate credit/transcript is not available). This online course is priced at $25 (no additional discounts are available).

This course is also offered in an expanded 10-hour format (PD156_24: Science of Reading in Action: Applying Scarborough's Reading Rope and PD302: Early Literacy Stepping Stones with the Science of Reading). The content is similar across formats, so we recommend selecting either the 10-hour or 3-hour version to best suit your needs.
